Avatar

AVATAR

Definition:
\Av`a*tar"\, n. [Skr. avat[^a]ra descent; ava from + root
t[.r] to cross, pass over.]
1. (Hindoo Myth.) The descent of a deity to earth, and his
incarnation as a man or an animal; -- chiefly associated
with the incarnations of Vishnu.

2. Incarnation; manifestation as an object of worship or
admiration.

Definition:

1. An image representing a user in a multi-user virtual reality (or VR-like, in the case of palace) space.

2. (CMU, Tektronix) root, superuser. There are quite a few unix computers on which the name of the superuser account is "avatar" rather than "root". This quirk was originated by a cmu hacker who disliked the term "superuser", and was propagated through an ex-CMU hacker at tektronix.

J.Kitty lays sprawled on her bed, spending a lonely evening with her laptop. J.Kitty is lost. She doesn't know where to begin. As her imeem playlist croons "Upside Down" by 6 cycle mind in the background, she sighs as she stares at the empty blog page in front of her. It is very intimidating, all that white space. It makes her writing more noticeable, and she feels more pressured to create nothing less than perfect. All that white space. And those letters such a stark contrast. It better be darned perfect, whatever she decides to say..

For at this point, J.Kitty yearns for nothing more than to become a Sci Fi Writer.
But to be a good one, it requires convincing characters people, a twisted plot, a spellbinding make believe universe filled with captivating possibilities.

With nothing else to go by for now, J.Kitty fashions her character based on herself and her own flaws and nuances.

She finds this comforting. Because J.Kitty has so many other things she should be doing, such as applying for jobs, cleaning her room, organizing her office, editing a wedding video, keeping track of her expenses and receipts for next year's tax refund, helping her dad find their naturalization papers to apply for the passports, brushing her teeth, lending an ear to some troubled friends...

but instead, she lays sprawled on her bed, staring at the blank page in front of her, but now filling it with words as she breathes life into her new character/heroine, based on herself and her current experiences.

The difference between the real J.Kitty and her avatar, is that the avatar or character will definitely be travelling to other universes of thought, and will experience all the adventures, pleasures, mysteries and surrealness that J.Kitty only wishes she could.

Now that she has organized her thoughts and laid a foundation, J.Kitty is no longer intimidated by the blank page. Because now it is filled with words.
